TRAINING

Trainings in 2011 will be possible from April 23th to April 24th, 2011 and from 21st to 22nd May 2011. Be aware that at that date there will not be any slide construction for the negotiation of the weir in the Branka village and therefore the negotiation of the weir will be prohibited.

Water will be released for ca 3-4 hours every day during daylight. It is possible to check the water level in the Moravice River on-line at the web page: http://www.pod.cz/.

For our purpose look for the Moravice  -  LG Branka station. For an easy slide the flow rate of ca 13 m3/s is sufficient. Past data shows that it is possible to negotiate the Moravice River daily without bettering the water state until the end of March.

During the week 25th – 31st July water for training will be released at these times:

Monday      25th July: 13:00 – 17:00
Tuesday     26th July: 13:00 – 17:00
Friday         29th Joly: 17:00 – 19:00
The times of water release will be updated if necessary.

THE COURSE

Classic race

The race will take place on the Moravice River. The starting point is in Hradec nad Moravici. The start line is about 50 metres upstream the bridge across the Moravice River. The length of the classic course is circa 4.1 km. The river is around 10-20 metres wide throughout the whole course.  During the race there will be a flow rate of 15m3/s in the river.
Start line is above the bridge. It is followed by a series of small weirs (ca 0.5m high). There are about six of such easily negotiable weirs in the first 800 metres of the race course. After 800 metres the competitors have to slide 1.5 metres high weir. A special construction of water slide will be used for this purpose. An easier (flat-water) part follows, going through a village called Branka. After another kilometre the river flows into natural meanders, which end by a rapid on the confluence with a little creek, the Voznice. Then there is the final part heading towards the finish line which is just about 50 metres above the other weir.
The overall difficulty level of the course is WW I-II. A bike path runs along the river on the full length of the course.  

Sprint Course

The race will take place on the Moravice River. The starting point is Hradec nad Moravici, The start line is about 50 metres upstream the bridge across the Moravice River. The length of the Sprint Race course is circa 400 metres. The river is about 10 metres wide through the whole course. During the race there will be a flow rate of 15m3/s in the river.The race starts above the bridge. The start is followed by a series of small negotiable weirs (ca 0.5m high). There are about 5 of such weirs on the sprint course.

Roads:

To get to Opava from Western Europe the D1 motorway is used. The D1 goes through Prague, Brno, Olomouc and Ostrava. From Ostrava to Opava road no. 11 is used.
From South Europe: motorways through Vienna, Bratislava, Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava. From Ostrava road no. 11 is used. From East Europe: through Krakow, Raciborz and to Opava.

The organisational team of JWC 2011 offers these possibilities of accommodation:

School Boarding House

Distance from the race course is ca 15 min, 2-4 bed rooms, shared toilets and showers on each floor. Boarding: full board. Dining hall is a part of the school Complex. (Breakfasts: cold buffet, lunches and dinners – hot meals. There is a room available for every team for a race analysis video, massages and team meetings. Fenced parking area will be available for storage of boats. Price: 16 EUR/person/night, breakfast 5 EUR, lunch 8 EUR, dinner 8 EUR. At all accommodation sites there will be volunteers who will assist and help the guests.

University Dormitory

Distance from race course ca 5 min, ca 3minute walk to the city centre. 2 bed rooms, shared toilets and showers on every floor. Boarding: full board, the restaurant is ca 2minute walk from the residence. There is one common room for all guests. The building and its parking area are fenced. Boats can be stored in the fenced accommodation area. Price: 18 EUR/person/night – breakfast 5 EUR, lunch 9 EUR, dinner 9 EUR.

Hotel accommodation

The organisational team can provide accommodation in a hotel if requested. None of the hotels provide a room for a race analysis video and team meetings. The hotels are more expensive than the accommodation in the halls of residence.
